New Yorker Magazine Cover
The goal of this project was to design a captivating cover that captures the essence of New York. Additionally, the cover needed to feature a book for the Summer Reading event. I selected The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler, a novel centered around octopuses. Inspired by its themes, I incorporated visual elements from the book into the cover design.
Sketches
During the ideation phase, I knew from the start that I wanted tentacles to be the focal point. After experimenting with their form, I explored various backgrounds and themes. Using rough thumbnails as a foundation, I developed a detailed pencil sketch to begin visualizing the color palette before moving on to vectorization.
Final Design
The final design not only stays true to the original vision but enhances it by featuring an accurate New York skyline and a clean, flat vector style that highlights the iconic New Yorker masthead.
